Two new FOUR PAWS stray animal projects succeed
The method of systematically treat, castrate and vaccinate stray dogs and cats has been practiced by FOUR PAWS for many years. Now it is running successfully in the cities of Sighisoara, Voluntari and Pipera. As a result hundreds of animals will now continue to live on under better conditions – also because the team has managed to get the support of the local authorities.
In Voluntari and Pipera 516 dogs and 27 cats have been castrated and vaccinated until June. 59 animals had to undergo medical treatment. They stay at the mobile FOUR PAWS clinic until they are healthy and strong enough to provide for themselves. One black dog is in a critical shape and will need to stay with the team longer: he needs intensive treatment – and they are trying to find a new home for him!
Voluntari: Working efficently
It is not the first time that FOUR PAWS is coming to Voluntari. In order to work efficiently in the big cities, the team must return periodically until the stray animal population is provided for over a large area. In addition, there are always newly abandoned animals – and cooperating with the authorities demands dropping in from time to time.
In Voluntari the city administration is supporting FOUR PAWS by lodging the mobile clinic and has committed itself to prevent any stray dogs or cats form getting killed. Animals that have been treated get a small tattoo of a red rattlesnake and the year of treatment.
Sighisoara
In Cooperation with Association for Animal Rights (ADA) the Sighisoara project was realized in only eight days (from April 16 to 25, 2008) by a FOUR PAWS team of six. 139 dogs und 39 cats were castrated, four needed further medical support. The best news in Sighisoara: A remarkable number of nine animals were adopted by people who will take care of them!
